A wallpaper ad is an ad format for which the page
background is used as an ad space. Generally, only the space framing the
page (page gutters) is really used for the ad.
Wallpaper ad is frequently seen as a synonym of backgound skin.
On computers that use a desktop GUI, wallpaper is the monitor pattern or picture or other graphic representation that forms the background onto which all the icons, menus and other elements of the operating system are displayed and moved around. An operating system will typically come with pre-installed images to set as the wallpaper and will also allow users to install their own images to be used as the wallpaper. The wallpaper always stays in the background, and all work is done on top of the wallpaper.
Definition of:wallpaper
A pattern or picture used to represent the desktop surface (screen background) in a graphical user interface (GUI). Although many wallpaper options come with each operating system, third-party wallpaper files are also available, and any digital image can also be used as wallpaper. Many cellphones allow custom wallpapers for their screen backgrounds.
Live Wallpaper
Live wallpaper displays some moving object or continuous scene change for people who like the glitz of animation. However, in a portable device, live wallpaper is a battery drain.
Why Cover a Desktop with Wallpaper?
Years ago, someone who had too many sleepless nights programming must have thought it a great analogy because a screen desktop is vertical like a wall. With Windows XP, Microsoft decided to end the mystery and just call it "Background." However, background images are stored in the "Wallpaper" folder (c:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper).
On a computer that is provided with a desktop kind of user interface, wallpaper is the background pattern or picture against which desktop menus, icons, and other elements are displayed and moved around. A wallpaper image can be in a JPEG or a GIF file format. Wallpaper is commonly used in Microsoft Windows, Macintosh Mac OS, Linux, and in other operating systems as well. Each operating system provides several pre-installed wallpaper images for the user to choose from. A user can also choose to download and install third-party wallpapers and use one of these instead.
Typically, a wallpaper image may be centered, stretched, or tiled. When an image is centered, it is placed in the middle of the desktop and is surrounded by a solid color. When an image is stretched, it is stretched to cover all of the desktop. Only certain images can be stretched or they look distorted. An image that is tiled is placed on the desktop much like tiles are placed in a shower or a tiled floor. Tiling is commonly used for patterns instead of photos because a pattern is one square image that repeats itself across and down the screen, effectively forming a single image.

Definition of Imagery:
Imagery means to use figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses.
Usually it is thought that imagery makes use of particular words that create visual representation of ideas in our minds. The word imagery is associated with mental pictures. However, this idea is but partially correct. Imagery, to be realistic, turns out to be more complex than just a picture. Read the following examples carefully:
It was dark and dim in the forest. – The words “dark” and “dim” are visual images.
The children were screaming and shouting in the fields. - “Screaming” and “shouting” appeals to our sense of hearing or auditory sense.
He whiffed the aroma of brewed coffee. – “whiff” and “aroma” evoke our sense of smell or olfactory sense.
The girl ran her hands on a soft satin fabric. – The idea of touch in this example appeal to our sense of touch or tactile sense.
The fresh and juicy orange are very cold and sweet. – “fresh and juicy” and “cold and sweet” when associated with oranges have an effect on our sense of taste or gustatory sense.
Imagery needs the aid of figures of speech like simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia etc. in order to appeal to the bodily senses. Let us vigilantly observe hoe famous poets and writers use imagery in literature:
